Jan Sturiale
Jan is an independent musician, composer and performing artist. He's one of the most in-demand guitar player for recording sessions and lessons in his area, he's not easily categorized, since his playing is a creative blend of rock, and jazz. Living across the USA and Europe he has performed, toured and recorded with international artists such as: Favored Nation’s artist: Stef Burns, Hiram Bullock, Dean Brown, Sid Jacobs, Melvin Taylor, Kyle Gregory and others. Growing up in Italy, began to study classical guitar , then after a few years his father gave him a Fender Stratocaster so he started playing along with rock records, developing rock techniques. He played in local bands throughout high school, playing rock. At 16 took his first jazz lesson. Later he focused on jazz studying with pianist, composer Glauco Venier in the "Jazz Interpretation class". He also attends several Kenny Wheeler's Master Class and Siena Jazz Higher Master classes. Jan studied classical guitar and achieved a Bachelor in Classical Guitar at Music Conservatory of Udine. He has been awarded with the Gary Burton Scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston and the same year won a Scholarship distinguishing from over 400 guitar-players from all the world at Guitar Session Clinics at Berklee College of Music. He earned a Guitar Master Certificate from Berklee College of Music. During his time in Boston and New York, Jan Sturiale was fortunate to study with Mick Goodrick, Dave Fuze, Tim Miller, and Ben Monder among others. Jan also moved to Los Angeles to study for a while with guitarists Sid Jacobs. He was also admitted to Master Degree and attended Jazz Performance classes at Music Conservatory of Trieste studying jazz improvisation and arranging with Glauco Venier, Klaus Gesing and later with Giovanni Maier and Alberto Mandarini. Jan is constantly touring Europe with various artists and his trio. Plus he teaches modern jazz/rock, harmony, improvisation and Music Ensemble at Emil Komel Music School. Jan uses mostly Conklin guitars. A Custom shop Sidewinder Conklin Guitar. He's also like to write instructional books and the latest "revised edition" of "La Chitarra nella Musica Contemporanea is available only in Italian trough www.lulu.com. Jan has recently joined the forces with JPC 4tet and recorded a new CD "LIBRA" co-produced by Giovanni Maier for Palomar records together with Nicola Privato, Marco Privato and Igor Checchini. Jan has just recorded a brand album with new sextet: Jan Sturiale "Do Not Disturb The Peace" that will be available through I-Tunes. The band include Leonardo Vito Tritto on fender rhodes, Jure Pukl on tenor and soprano sax, Alessandro Turchet on doublebass, Luca Colussi on drums and Alba Nacinovich on vocal.
