Bill Lancton
" I have owned and recorded with dozens of guitars over the years,
but none has had the beauty of tone and versatility that my Conklin
Crossover Jazz has. I used it on all the cuts of my last cd, from
the acoustic parts to the screaming rock parts. I also use it on
straight ahead jazz gigs, where it always draws the attention of
the crowd for its warm tone and unique beauty. It is truly a work
of art." Bill Lancton

Guitarist Bill Lancton has been making his impact on the Indianapolis
music scene since 1973 as a performer, studio musician, and teacher...yet
he seems to be hitting a new high point each year. The past five
years have been very good for Bill...a finalist in the 1994 WTPI
FM Winter Jazz Festival and Competition with his group the Coalition...four
readers poll victories in NUVO Newsweekly (and the release of two
cd's) as a member of the world-beat band Dog Talk...the 1997 release
of his contemporary jazz cd Lanctones (which received extensive
airplay, culminating with the inclusion of one cut on the WTPI /
AMERITECH Jazz Sampler). In 1998 the group Les Chat Du Swing, of
which he is a founding member with jazz violinist Cathy Morris,
was chosen best small jazz group of the year in Indianapolis. October
1999 brings the release of his new cd, "yeah, man"...which has garnered
airplay on WTPI FM 107.9 in it's first week of availability. After
relocating from his native New York, Bill settled in Indianapolis
to begin a successful career that has taken him from coast to coast,
always keeping his roots in jazz (his dad was a big band leader
and arranger in New York and Detroit). Playing his custom Conklin
electric / midi / acoustic guitar, Bill has been deep into the Santana
/ Latin feel for his whole career, yet he has often led and performed
as a side man in straight ahead, bop oriented groups. His compositions
reflect a wide range of feelings...from gentle bossa to funk to
rocking Latin. His wife and business partner LuAnn have been able
to combine both of their talents...her degree in art and keen sense
of promotion have been major factors in the success of Bill's groups.
She also runs her own very cool custom sign and decorative painting
business!
