Ben Jones Jr.
The son of a jazz pianist and music educator, virtuoso six-string
bassist Ben Jones was born and raised in Detroit, Mishigan, where
his early teachers included Johnny Griffin, Hank Crosby, Kim Weston,
and other noted studio musicians who helped create the Motown soul
sound. Jones cut his teeth on a national tour backing R&B songstress
Anita Baker when he was only 18, and later toured with soul legends
Martha Reeves, Allyson Williams, as well as the acclaimed jazz violinist
Noel Pointer. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest nearly ten years
ago, Jones has toured and/or recorded with blues belter Terry Evans,
the legendary vocal group The Coasters, Portland R&B masters
Calvin Walker, Andy Strokes, and The Lloyd Jones Struggle. Beginning
in September 1997, Jones became a regular with acclaimed jazz keyboardist
Jeff Lorber.
